Helping Senior Citizens
About 1/10 older persons (people who are 60 years old or older) were found to live alone in a study published in 2017. This number does not include older persons living as head of their household having to take care of their grandchildren by themselves without help. Elderly people living in these or similar circumstances alongside poverty experience many hardships in just surviving. By the age of 60, the human body goes through drastic changes that incredibly lower its ability to protect against infectious diseases and cancers as well as its ability to heal wounds. This bodily change’s unfortunate effects can be seen in our communities as many of the elderly people living alone are also experiencing health problems. Without anyone to help them with getting food, soap, and clothing or to assist in paying their medical bills, these older people are experiencing immense hardship.

As we were going house to house to find families with children for our other programs, we met many elderly people running their household or living alone without their needs met. Furthermore, many of these elders were suffering from health problems such as back pain, vision problems, diabetes, and arthritis. These adversities alongside the limitations of poverty were greatly hindering their quality of life and ability to obtain necessities. This has led us to have a program for the Elderly. We want to create a program just for our older community members as they deserve so much respect and care as they raised the villages.
We aim to uplift communities’ elders in order that they may experience the great quality of life they deserve. We will use donations to further provide basics (such as soap, food, water and clothes) as well as use funds to cover medical expenses for care and treatment. All donations go directly to the products and services given to the elderly.
